Confirmation

Confirmation is the sacrament which enriches the baptised with the gifts of the Holy Spirit so that they may grow in stature as Christians and give witness to Christ more fully. Baptised in Christ and sealed by the Holy Spirit at Confirmation, the Christian is then called to the table of the Lord in the sacrament of the Eucharist.

The celebration of Confirmation calls to mind the faith professed in Baptism and confers the gifts needed to build up the Christian community in unity and love. By the laying on of hands and anointing with the Sacred Oil of Chrism, Confirmation seals and completes Baptism. Through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, candidates are filled with the grace to follow the example of Christ and serve others.

Children who have been baptised as infants undergo a period of preparation for Confirmation when they are in Year 3. At St Agatha’s, Confirmation is celebrated  before First Communion. This follows the more ancient ordering of Baptism, Confirmation and then Eucharist.

St Agatha’s Parish offers a Parish based, family centred & School supported program for the Sacrament of Confirmation for children in Year 3. They are sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit administered by the Archbishop or his delegate.

Preparation for the Sacrament is delivered over a 4 week period. The children will be asked to work through a workbook over a period of 3 weeks at home and then once completed they will come together as a group for a book review to further enhance their understanding of the Sacrament of Confirmation.

The preparation timetable will be advertised through both Parish and School newsletters. If you have any further queries, please contact 3262 2859
